My Tmax was great in Spainish mountains this year, only problem was grounding the centre stand on the hairpins with Mrs J on the back (gave me terrible ear-ache). My old Fazer was best in this environment, lots of gear changing down but awesome power out of the corners - crap weather protection though, munched rear tyres, feeble rear suspension for touring. TDM was good but not comfy for Mrs J and even worse weather protection, VFR comfy and good in the rain but had a problem with the VTEC cutting in when changing down thus making it a bit of a faff to be in the right gear on exit - no such issues with Tmax best all round for me.

We all keep going round in circles, but always end up back at the Tmax!! It just does so many things well, or very well.

True. Now that we are taking about the TMax again I found a 530 with 43,5k miles for £4500. Had the Akra pipe fitted too. I wonder how he managed to ride that much.

Anyway, on the coming days I will go to a local dealer to test drive the Street Triple R. Maybe try a couple more bikes too.

Really interested in your opinion... you seem to like your TMAX as much as I liked mine (and my BMW) so I am interested to know what you think!

I have been thinking of a change to a touring bike as that is all I really used my Burgman for. My spec was shaft drive, good luggage capabilities, ABS and good weather protection. A friend who also owns a Burgman was looking around thinking of changing and arranged a test ride of a BMW 1200 GS. He also arranged a test ride for me at the same time on a R1200RT. We had them out for a couple of hours and swapped halfway through. I thought the GS too harsh and lumpy and of the two I preferred the RT. Both left us with severe tingling in our hands though. On returning to the dealership I saw a used Yamaha FJR1300 and took that for a ride. Much smoother and better (for me) than the BMW's. I was given a p/x price for my Burgman and I was severely tempted but wanted to wait a few days before making a decision. Not having looked at any other FRJ's I looked around and found others that were better priced so decided to put my Burgman up for sale and buy prvately - I was looking to spend up to about £7.5k on a touring bike with up to 20,000 miles on the clock. I didn't even get a bid with a no reserve auction starting price of £4.5k (got plenty of silly offers after the auction ended though). Anyway, because it had been parked up at home (normally stored at work) I have been using it for a couple of days and you know what?...I have come to the conclusion that it is perfect for my needs and I'd be a mug to sell it and spend up to another £3k on a touring bike that I'll probably use for one major trip per year so with just 7000 miles on the clock I'm keeping it. I must have been mad to think of selling in the first place.

I wouldn't sell my TMax cheaply either. I'd rather keep it too.

Anyway, I just came back from the dealership. Their demo Street Triple got sold yesterday and they only had a new in. They said they will charge the battery and have it ready for next week. I hope they don't expect me to buy it next week too. lol

They did have this though. Triumph Tiger 800XC.

I gave it a try to my usual routes around the city, both in and out. I think I'm going to scratch adventure bikes from the list. Good power, nothing extraordinary though. The triple sounded awesome, I can't even begin to fathom how it would sound with a pipe on.

All in all, it offered many things but not what my heart desired. 15 minutes into the test drive and I already knew that I'm not selling my TMax for this.

So join us next week for the Street Triple. To be continued..

Hmm. Interesting. I've heard people raving about the Tiger too. If you're not blown away by the Street, then perhaps try the Speed. It weighs about the same as the TMAX at 220kg.

To me all bikes are about the same, except for the Honda Tourers, they finished production of the Deauville late last year, which convinced me finally to get one. It is a very practical bike to own and use every day. Initially I was put off by Demo rides in 2006 of the NT700, but the later ones are much better, ABS brakes, easy adjustable screen and probably better fuel mapping, make it sorted.
