Re: mcn maxi shootout coming soon!
I thought this issue of MCN was reasonable for a change.
The maxi test was informative and there are articles on two wheel travel in Europe and further afield.
There is also a 125 test for fuel economy which the Vespa gts won with an impressive 138.75 miles per gallon!
Years ago MCN just took the piss out of scooters so they have improved slightly.
£2.10 is a lot of money for it though.

Yeah...138mpg from an (auto) Vespa 125??? Wow! How come??? I could never get more than 70 out of my old 125 Skipper, but I guess I did ride it flat out all the time!Liam wrote:I thought this issue of MCN was reasonable for a change.

Wow, didn't know it was so expensive!£2.10 is a lot of money for it though.
I always read MCN every week, a guy in my office gives me his copy when he's read it.
Not worth the money, wouldn't pay 21p for it............

That is a surprise, I would have thought that a non-cvt would have been the best.Liam wrote:the Vespa gts won with an impressive 138.75 miles per gallon!

there wasn't much competition. Just 2 others.gn2 wrote:That is a surprise, I would have thought that a non-cvt would have been the best.Liam wrote:the Vespa gts won with an impressive 138.75 miles per gallon!
A KTM125 Duke did 101.7 miles and a Rieju 125 did 82.2 miles.
They should have tested half a dozen at least!

Re: mcn maxi shootout coming soon!
Just bought this and it is, surprisingly, a well written piece. The TMAX wins just above the BMW, which seems to be a first amongst all the tests I have read or seen which normally give the edge to the BMW by a tiny margin. Where the TMX wins I think is its filtering ability and the behaviour of its wet clutch in town. The biggest surprise is the Honda which comes bottom of the heap, although it does manage the fastest lap time, probably due to its ABS and big wheels. The TMAX fairs badly on the lap due to lack of ABS and its wheels locking up under braking. Another interesting comment is that the BMW engine does not appear to be of usual BMW quality... perhaps because it is a Kymco?
As I've said before, I'm a real TMAX fan, but until it comes with ABS, I won't be owning another one. Hopefully that will be in the next couple of years, and when it does arrive I will order one!
Or can someone tell me how to import one?

Re: mcn maxi shootout coming soon!
I thought they said the quality of the whole scoots was not apparently of usual BMW quality, rather than the engine. I'm beginning to suspect the Kymco bits are its best features!!! Some of the detailed design failures in the BMWs would drive me nuts - the luggage spaces that can't quite hold a (non BMW) full face helmet, the parking brake thats connected to the sidestand......DougL wrote:. parking brake on the side stand works a treat on the x10 much better than a separate handle imo
