Actually I was surprised that the big burger's rear tyre wasn't bigger. the new 150 section tyre on my X8 (which admittedly is a little big for it) made the burger's tyre look small! (Or may be it just made it's arse look big.....)

The tyres on the burger are adequate but i looked at your wider tyre and thought it would be ideal on the burgman , so it gets me thinking ,

I just checked my notes and as far as i have in the history the tyres were changed at:

12889 miles (front+rear)
21948 (front+rear)
27400 (rear)
32164 (front)

The change at 27400 for the rear was due to blowout, so the rear has lasted 9k max and front lasted around 10k max.

The odometer's currently around 34k and the rear needs changing but i'm trying to squeeze as much as i can out of it right now.

So if I've got this right the rear tyres, ignoring the blowout change, have lasted -

1st - 12889
2nd - 9059
3rd - under 7k!

Now either they're putting less rubber on tyres these days OR you're using them a bit more.............

Hmmm........ going back to my original post on this. Having looked again at my rear tyre, I'd say that I could stretch it out to between 6 and 7k if I'm careful.

Martin, I'm wondering if that change in compound you posted about has had an adverse effect on tyre life.

It reminds me of the Avon Stryker a few of us fitted to our X9's a few years ago in preference to the Michelin Gold Standards. The handling was fantastic but they were shagged after @5k.

What always surprises me is the mileages on the Bridgestones that the guys on BUSA report, but maybe they benefit from long (straight) roads and journeys with far greater average length and less congestion.

The update on TH01R was something related to construction rather than compound I seem to recall reading, but certainly aimed at increasing durability.

Simple answer is stop enjoying yourself so much, or take the twisty way more often, is it the centre that's wearing out?

Oh yes ...enjoying myself.

At the end of Barry's ride to Bletchley Park in October, Darak ( the Polish SilverWing rider) came up to me and commented on how much I seem to enjoy throwing the Burger into twisties...and I do!

Most of my riding is the daily commute which consists mainly of duel carrage ways, so yes it is the centre that's going.

When I was at my dealer on Saturday morning, I asked about a price for a new rear Battleaxe and was quoted £90 fitted.

Seems fair and a hell of a lot better than I was expecting.

The tyre is around the £70 mark, so £20 for removing the wheel, fitting the tyre and then putting it all back together isn't bad at all.

What dealer was that mr. j.j.?
