Plus mopeds appear to be the favourite transport of phone snatchers. Certainly in London. Light enough to get over kerbs to snatch someone's phone from behind and manouverable enough for a quick getaway. Bit off topic but true.
No phone snatcher rides a moped.
The media just describes every two wheeler used in snatches as a moped, which is what they invariably call a T-Max.
Have a look at any photo published by the police & media of a moped used in a robbery. Lots of PCX's, X-Max's and T-Max's

Oh yeah, people use the terms scooter and moped interchangeably. Because they don't know what a moped is, and associate open step-through frames with mopeds. People have called my Forza 350 a moped for this reason. It really annoys me. But what really boils my p*** is people who call it a moped because it isn't a 170mph race rep like they have seen on Moto GP on the telly. Slow (less than 170 by their definition) means moped. Not 125cc motorcycles - at least they look vaguely like the GP racers on the telly. Scooters don't. So they are inferior in their eyes. And these people almost invariably have never had a powered 2-wheeler of any description themselves.

Good riddance.
I'm sure they still exist, just no one with any sense looks at their ill informed click bail. "Bikers involved in city centre phone snatching" translates as someone used a Surron in a mugging. It's up there with my Look North all time favourite "How the Earthquake in China is affecting Ripon"
Complain all you like about Faceache etc. but the video a witness posted will tell you ten times more than the interpretation of someone with multiple agendas that come before getting you the information.
I can't be bothered worrying about name callers either. If someone who should eat fewer pies and consider how a septegenarian body looks in a leather baby grow feels better calling them mopeds I aren't going to waste my time worrying about it. I have struggled in the past not to mention the Village People when faced with patch club nutters, but self preservation usually wins. Better to just pull up dry and warm and put your lid in it's locked compartment while they have to carry wet gear, turn up with a bunch of Monkey bikes that people will wave at and photograph in the street because they are having so much fun, mention you've come 300 miles today and will now be going to a restaurant because you look and feel human.......
