Perhaps there should be cyclist ranting page where we can all have a vent? I nearly got one a few years ago cos he decided that it was quicker to go round a roundabout the wrong way....

The issue with riding a bicycle several thousand miles a year is that you face potential danger every ride because people that ride bicycles are dehumanised to the point where everyone jokes about it.
When language like, "created a lot of grief for themselves," and "Cyclists have created their own image problem, so no sympathy here" it encourages people to think of people on bikes as fair game, and deserving of mistreatment, not the vulnerable road users that they are. It trivialises putting people, human beings, in danger.
A person riding a bicycle is a human being, someone's child, perhaps someone's parent.
Maybe we need to think a little more about what we are writing.

We need to remember that there is a lot of good and law abiding cyclists. Although they do seem rare in Central London.

If it is an articulated vehicle, which includes caravans and other forms of trailers then it is not allowed to use the outside lane of a motorway EXCEPT if it is a two-lane section of motorway (such as M27 passing Portsmouth westbound between Hilsea and the M275 westbound junction.)
I regularly tow a caravan and it annoys me to see other caravans and sometimes foreign articulated trucks using the outside lane (usually M25), or overtaking me at 70mph when the speed limit for towing is set at 60 (or 56 in a truck).

Oddly, on 3 lane dual carriageway A roads (eg A14 Huntingdon - Cambridge) I presume its still legal for Trucks to use the outside lane! (certainly used to be). But in theory, their speed limit is lower (not that they pay any attention to that). HGV's (7.5 ton +) are not allowed to use the right hand lane if there are more than two.
Speed limit is 50 mph if the signs are green rather than blue.
Coaches were banned when speed limiters (100 kph) came in.

Agreed, I only meant by my response to point out one incident regarding the lack of highway knowledge not start a swathe of anticyclist sentiment, I too am a cyclist and I ride my bike like most I see with due care and attention. I thought coaches could still do 70 but were banned from lane 3? They do seem to do 70 as I'm often held up a little behind them on 2 lane dual carriageways as they pass trucks doing 60 or whatever. Now don't start me ranting about trucks doing 62mph that pass other trucks doing 61, and those that try to do it going uphill.......
Personally think that trucks should be limited to the inside 2 lanes on 4 lane M-ways - it seems ridiculous on the M25 to have 3 lanes solidly full of trucks and everything else trying to squeeze into lane 4. Actually I'd ban all trucks from anywhere else than lane 1......
