That is a shame and an all too familiar occurrence - you were fortunate that details were left. Being at what sounds like a public place, perhaps there was CCTV present which may have deterred the errant driver from just driving-off regardless. I recall many years ago parking a 250cc motorcycle in a free-parking bay near to a local shopping precinct with a lock through the front wheel. When I returned a short time later, the bike had been moved onto the nearby pavement and a car was now in the parking bay. Whoever it was must have physically lifted the bike up to move it as the lock was still in place. Luckily it was undamaged, but I could have been issued with a parking ticket for blocking the footpath. I was tempted to wait and confront the driver - who no doubt would have denied all knowledge - but decided it was not worth the upset.
