Forgive me for asking a silly question, being new to scooters why doesn't anyone use genuine parts on these clutch variator bits and pieces ? If you were happy with original performance why change to different size, weights?

Thanks snail

If you are happy with standard performance, you probably wouldn't buy any aftermarket bits - though as the DrPulley sliding roller thingies slide rather than roll, they apparently last much longer than standard rollers.
However, changing the variator or bits within it or fitting these DrPulley sliders often gives significantly improved acceleration (especially from low or mid range speeds) with far less hassle or expense than tuning the engine (or extra noise if you wanted a go-faster exhaust). For example, the mk3 Tmax goe well at high speeds, but its acceleration at low speeds is somewhat leisurely - but the DrPulley sliders improve matters considerably!

Ok Mr Grumpy, so it's away of tweaking performance not just a cheaper pattern part alternative,

Thanks for that explanation, think it would make little difference to me being just a leisure rider if it were a bit quicker off the lights

Thanks snail

Like most things in the motorcycle industry it’s just another money making con - from performance parts to protective apparel - just another way of screwing you - quality however always comes at a price

A word of support for Dr Pulley sliders, they work well in some bikes and are perhaps less necessary in others.

They will certainly provide improved pick-up from a standstill (if that's what you want), they wear less than standard circular rollers and they reduce top end revs for the same speed (provided you get the correct weight)

The cost over OEM standard replacement is minimal and somewhat like fitting an Iridium plug it extends service intervals.

Unlike other so called performance mods it won't increase your fuel consumption but could increase enjoyment.

For me they're of more value in smaller lower powered scoots, they transformed my SH125 initial acceleration from stationary, which was a positive safety benefit.

They made a notable difference to my Burgman 400 giving a bit better acceleration and lower revs at fast cruising speed but I don’t think they would make a big difference on my Xmax 300 trick is getting the weight right for your riding style

Pop a K&N in and you've got one hell of a boost.

Because snail my friend we like to tinker with bits n bobs in the hope of the holy grail - kinda like I’ve got a 50cc moped which maxes out at 28 mph however if I fit this wee component it’ll do 31 mph or if I use this kinda oil I’ll get 90 mpg instead of say 87 mpg - it’s an illness I really do believe it’s an illness - meantime you and your good lady enjoy your new scoot - but beware the said illness is contagious
