I checked the voltage across the battery it shows 12.5 volt.
With the engine running on tick over 14.2 volts and with some revs 14 7 volt.

It sounds like you're charging ok, and battery voltage is ok.
This link (if I've posted it ok) seems to imply that your grips might show low voltage until your system reaches 13v. This won't be until your engine is running.

It could be you don't have a problem and it's just that to protect your battery the grips won't come on properly until you are at 13volts, which would need your engine to be running. Oxford do make a heated grip that you can wire direct to the battery and which turns itself off if your battery gets too low. Perhaps you have this type, but they have been wired through the ignition to ensure you can't walk away from the bike with the grips left on. ie the previous owner wasn't prepared to rely on the grips turning themselves off.
Oxford, or other posters should be able to clarify this for you.

The heated grips are designed to register when the bike is running at low revs or not running at all and will flash to tell you they will not switch on. They also register the voltage drop when you turn on the ignition bear in mind all your lights are on although the interlock shuts them off when you press the starter. The grips will also switch off if the bike is on low revs for a long period. All part of the design so you do not flatten your battery.

Thank you all for replying.
I've just put a new battery on the beast and it has not made any difference it still flashes.
I'll run it for a few weeks and see if anything happens.

As I said when you turn on the ignition the head lights lights drop the voltage and the grips flash to say they will not switch on. Start the bike and the lights should stop flashing because the grips will register 14v on the sensor.

Did you condition charge the new battery first?

Yes I placed the new battery on charge until the charger reverted to trickle charge, thank's
With all that new found power of the new battery the lights are quite bright and don't seem to get any brighter when I rev.
I'm going for a ride to Cambridge this afternoon and have my AA card with me just in case.
