The 600 is 46bhp and I would not call 71mpg thirsty. The point of a bigger engine is the less revs for out put. So I sat on 80mph yesterday at less than 5000 revs, smooth as silk.

Also bigger engine is much better with a pillion.

SYM UK's website actually has the 600 listed as 30.3kw which is just under 41bhp. Whereas Piaggio's website has the 500 listed as 41Bhp.

You may recall Steve from SYM told us that was an error. If you read all the French reviews it's stated to be 46

True, but SYM Taiwan's website says 30.3kw. If there's a mistake I'm surprised it hasn't been amended by now .

True but the French seem to think it's 46. You twist the throttle and it goes like shit off a shovel with no vibration or effort so who cares. Not to mention that SYM know how to seal their fuse boxes :D

Why would anyone hand over cash for a scooter that needs a bloody modification from the outset, in order to ride it in the rain?? icon_rain2.gif

And if you were unaware of this mod necessity, you'd feel pi**ed when it didn't start one morning.

It may be an easy mod to do but it just says something about the manufacturer doesn't it?

SYMs main Taiwan website has been wrong before - they had the JoyMax 300 down as 263cc for a long long time. As did the UK one. France seem the only country bothering to leave accurate info on their site so I'd believe them first...

As for pillions and power my experience on 100cc, 171cc, 263cc and 600cc machines is the the lower the power the greater the fun. Wanting not to notice pillions is an error in concept but if you really want to go that way may I suggest a Mercedes E class?

Easier to treat an X10 fusebox than fit an mph speedo, but wait a minute, the X10 has that problem too.... Oh I know how to choose..... which one needs new brake master cylinders every few months....

Because the rest of the machine is good, but yes you are perfectly correct - it's an appalling omission by Piaggio and speaks volumes that 2+ years on you can still look up from the back wheel at the crimp connectors that hold the fuses and relays. It's a bit like Porsche selling the M96/M97 engine for over 2 decades with known (and easily correctable) issues with the thermostat on the input side of the engine (seriously!), open deck bores that distorted and broke, IMS bearing issues (who knew bearings needed oil eh?) and head gaskets that didn't allow enough cooling flow past the cylinder walls - especially cylinders 5 and 6. Engine for lunch anyone?

Piaggio's error is actually worse than simply missing a cover too - the seat and battery/fuse area is a single moulding - there is no reason for putting the fusebox there under a cover at the back, it could have been made accessible from the seat compartment. Doh! If you leave the fusebox top cover screw in and have a rack you can't get to the fuses with the stock toolkit either ;). However cover it up and it's as reliable as the Beverly 350.

Still, my SYM GTS300 needed modding too - mirrors that I could actually use as mirrors - £6 on eBay out performs SYM's fancy foldings by a considerable margin making it far far safer. Then it needed sensible gearing - Dr Pulley 19g did that, then I wanted to fit a lid under the seat - enter Fein Multitool, then I wanted to fit on it without my knees jamming against the glovebox so goodbye factory obstacle and hello DIY seat pad. Useless windscreen goes without saying on all scooters.

So yes it's a problem - dealers should really be fixing at source - but easy to get round to enjoy the power and handling. Actually the power and handling is very much like a motorbike - although I'm still not able to use all power due to my running in schedule - which is in a way fantastic, but also rather too good which makes it feel more bike-ish and less scooterish - which wasn't necessarily what I was aiming at. Certainly I wouldn't want anything longer or heavier to paddle around!

KPH speedo is an issue perhaps except that real GPS speeds correspond to big numbers - i.e. 31mph = 60, 52mph = 90, so actually it's pretty easy.
