Re: Step through.
Thank you all for your replies. Why I asked the original question was because ,about 2005 Derbi made a 50cc scooter that had fully auto engine under the seat with a chain drive to the rear wheel. At first glance it looked like a normal twist and go. I wondered if this system had ever been used on a semi auto like the C90 (of which I have owned 7 ) I had thought that Piaggio may have adapted the system ,as they owned Derbi.

And a semi auto can be ridden on a licence with an auto restriction, because it doesn't have a user controlled clutch.

Re: Step through.
Thank you gn2 but I am not really interested in who can do what, with a licence. Regards JOHN

Re: Step through.
Were you really wanting to know if there is a step-through without a gear change lever?
Because that is a completely different question.

Re: Step through.
Now I'm confused. I can't understand exactly what the OP is asking. He's obviously not referring to the auto clutch/manual gears system as fitted to the C50/70/90. I get the 'step through' bit but I don't understand his meaning of a 'fully automatic engine'. John, are you talking about a step through with a fully automatic gearbox as cars have - a torque convertor and gearbox with actual gears that change up and down automatically instead of a centrifugal clutch and a variator system? Please explain.

Re: Step through.
Steve d. Good question. As I said in my last post about the 50cc Derbi ,they made a 50cc scooter with a fully automatic scooter engine in front of the rear wheel. This engine had a variator , belt and auto clutch. The drive to the rear wheel was by chain not gears. If this system was used on a C90 with the engine under the leg shields, with a chain final drive, this would do away with the crunchy gear change. It would also give better performance. People still like to ride c90's because of the light weight and low running cost, unfortunately the demand for these bikes has put the price of used ones well over a £1000 in a lot of adverts. There are on sale several copies of the C90,but as far as I know they all use the semi auto gearbox. Ride safe you all. JOHN
