they rebored n fettled with it to 900cc in my husky nuda 900, it was an excellent engine then, sounded fantastic n pulled like a train!

Yeah . . . RETRO baby!!

But is it actually retro or just an ancient design three decades past is best before date?

Dude, I don't really care . . . not REALLY . . . I just like the 'look' of it . . . it reminds me of my 'era' (the 70s)
I certainly don't care enough to argue about it.
To each their own and all that.

I keep looking at bikes and not really liking many. I did like the Suzuki C800C but too much chrome to clean.
I'd probably get an R6 TBH, I like that bike and it's nice and light and very capable. The GSXR 750 is also tempting.
I like the adventure bikes - the G650GS for example - but bigger than that and you have to wonder if a scooter will be easier!

I can understand the appeal and why it reminds you of the 70s because it first went on sale in 1979.
It was a bit old fashioned looking even then.
There was one in the showroom when I bought CSF382W my lovely brand new blue and white LC350
As I recall the SR wasn't a particularly reliable machine back then, hopefully Yamaha have had enough time to iron the wrinkles out.
The only wrinkles will be on the rider...

But hey, old fashioned looking isn't so bad, the only new bike which remotely interests me is a V7 Guzzi.

Gn2 I have just ridden a newish v7 and must say its much more chariteristic than the Bonnie and from experience can tell you that the newer injected version is certainly more responsive and sprightly IMHO . I actually managed to ride it without too much discomfort as well . I very nearly had a mg belaggio a short while ago and must say that the small block motor I that was a real peach and would be great in the v7 . One more machine that is very underestimated and has a great build quality is the knack w650/800 and that also wipes the floor with the Bonnie in every way apart from the badge IMHO , think I was spoilt owning a t140v years ago which has that missing ingredient that triumph need to put back into the currant Bonnie .
