Sym are the SanYang motor company (or SanYang Industries to give them their proper title).
SSangyong are indeed Korean, though according to Wikipedia, are now owned by Mahindra of India.

Re: Sym/Yamaha.
SYM is indeed Samyang industry co.
SSang yong is a Korean car manufacturer who produce cars,
mostly SUVs, vans and people carriers.
However SYM do make cars for Hyundai and made motorcycles and cars for
Honda up to 2002, when Honda formed its own Taiwanese Subsidiary. However
I believe the cars they made were for the Taiwanese home market. Not sure
what other countries SYM made vehicles were exported to.

SYM Motors
Company
SYM Sanyang Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in Taipei in 1954 by Huang Ji-Jun and Chang Kuo An. The company's headquarters is established in Hsinchu, Taiwan and SYM's three major production bases are in Taiwan, China and Vietnam. Wikipedia.
Interesting a lot of Sym Dealers are also kawasaki dealers. I assume thats because over here kawi did not offer a scooter for its dealers to sell. I wonder how that will change with the rebadged kymco?

Crikey GN2, since you swopped your PCX125 for a 300cc Forza you've become a right Mrs Bucket!

I don't need a crystal ball to predict the outcome if MOTOGB sent you a Joymax and a Maxsym 600i for a week...gn2 wrote:...take it for an extended test ride and do a write-up.
gn2 more than likely might have wrote:Service intervals... Service intervals... Service intervals... Service intervals ...they're both mince.

I quite like mince, but it isn't steak....
Only had the Forza since September, 3000 miles on the clock now, so would be looking at getting a second service very soon if it was a Sym.
Might consider a Sym next time, but there needs to be a good local dealer, mph speedo and decent service intervals.

Re: Sym/Yamaha.
I know what you mean about the speedo but SYM are not the only people not to put a complete new speedo on for the UK, I think it is only the US now that uses MPH but I could be wrong. I have to say this is not my first bike with a speedo like this and you do get used to it very quickly, and the odometer is in mph. At 3000 miles it would be having its first main service and is little more than an oil change took me 10 minutes. The earlier service is a run in service I had the same thing on my Kawasaki. At 6000 it will also need a change of air filter. I know you feel strongly about this but I dont just see it as a big deal and they are extending the service times on the new models. I use SYM parts so I dont see a problem with warranty issues and if you read world wide reviews the theme that constantly comes over is just how reliable SYM's are. Look at the harsh 3rd world countries which are their big markets, they have to be indestructible.gn2 wrote:I quite like mince, but it isn't steak....

Re: Sym/Yamaha.
The 400 is a big seller in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. It's the biggest seller in Greece (and their Road conditions leave a lot to be desired) and it's a big seller in Australia. Having lived there for 3 years I can tell you get away from the main towns and it's tough going.
