Re: 2014 tmax
If my French is correct, this is not a general 2014 TMax but a special edition, the BronzeMax. I believe Yamaha have released special editions of the TMax before and as then, there are no mechanical differences to the standard model, just cosmetic. And of course it will cost more.
I don't know if they will sell this model in the UK, I don't think it matters much but what does in my view is that Yamaha continue as far as I know to refuse to bring the ABS version here. The reason given is the additional cost which would make it uncompetitive here with our quite small maxi scooter market, in contrast to Europe with its proportionally far larger market. They may well be correct but it's a pity I think.

That might just be the UK importer.abitmad wrote: Yamaha continue as far as I know to refuse to bring the ABS version here. Sweden must be a way smaller market than the UK and the ABS TMax has been available for years.

Re: 2014 tmax
The UK importer is part of Yamaha as far as I know, not a third party. So it is their official policy to fail to import the TMax ABS here and not some independent importer's opinion. A local dealer told me this is due to the additional cost which the company feels would make it uncompetitive, even though that is not the case in Europe.MjW wrote: That might just be the UK importer.

I suspect that Sweden although a small market is seen by them as part of a European wide market whilst the UK is seen as separate. That is probably because In Europe the maxi scooter market is way bigger in proportion to the total scooter/motorcycle market than here in the UK and the TMax is a best seller amongst maxis.
The UK isn't really part of Europe in much other than a geographical proximity context. The relative lack of interest in maxis here compared with their popularity in the Europe is just one very tiny example of a big cultural divide.

Re: 2014 tmax
If someone is willing to spend more on a brand new one with 'cosmetic' changes I am sure they can find the money to pay for the ABS on a 'standard' model.

Thats a terribly good point - after all the Black Max and Tech Max versions were even imported into the UK.Funkycowie wrote:If someone is willing to spend more on a brand new one with 'cosmetic' changes I am sure they can find the money to pay for the ABS on a 'standard' model.

Re: 2014 tmax
According to this not terribly reliable story, the Bronze max will have ABS as an option. Now whether they are getting confused with versions elsewhere in Europe, we can't be sure. But they are announcing it as something new, which it would be in the UK, but not elsewhere.

car manufacturers make a lot of money with so called extra options... so why cant you decide at point of sale if you want an optional extra for your scoot.MrGrumpy wrote:According to this not terribly reliable story, the Bronze max will have ABS as an option.
