not what ive been told by a mechanic who works on piaggio engines and honda engines, he said they both use the leader engine on some of their models. Well i guess he has ill informed me then.

So the moral of the story is not to believe eveything you hear
Piaggio did used to use 250cc Honda engines about ten years ago though...

I thought the eariler Italian maxi scoots used Honda/yamaha/suzuki engines. Malaguti used a license built Suzuki burgman engine for the madison 400, yamaha 250 for the madison 250 the Italjet Jupiter 250 used a yamaha 250. Aprilia also used a Yamaha 250 on the Leonardo and piaggio used honda 250 motors on the hexagon 250 and SL X9 before developing their own engines.
Honda/yamaha/suzuki use(d) there own engines.
Whilst Peugeot (not now though) and Malaguti (now) use Piaggio engines.

At the time Piaggio were using 250 Honda I don't think they even had a 125 water cooled 4 stroke .I remember X9 250 was out before a 125 or the 500 version .Hexagon had the Honda Helix upright engine X9 had the flat 4 valve Forsite engine .
