lol! yeah...shame. Main problem would be getting to the rad I suspect to drop the egg in. But wouldn't fancy doing that unless I was really really stuck. Last resort.JohnR93 wrote:So, gone are the days when you could pour an egg into your radiator to stop a leak... That's progress for you. (TIC)

Re: Engine Coolant!
Nothing....one dark filthy mucky winter's night many years ago (in my car, before I'd bought a scoot), It'd had been so mucky that I'd been using my windscreen washer almost continually on a journey, so I thought I'd better top up the washer reservoir. My garage at the time didn't have any lights (and I'm not the brightest mechanically), so I took a bottle of water and unscrewed something and poured the water in......my guardian angel then appeared in my head and asked me where I'd poured the water into.... Yes, I'd topped up the brake fluid reservoir with water.Data wrote:Bluebottle....lol![]()

But I can beat that! Some years ago I was out in the garden on a nice summers evening. I thought I'd wash the cars. Did both then thought the wife's Puntu Evo with beautiful metalic paintwork was looking not as shiny as it should. So thought I'd give it a good coat of polish. By this time it was almost dusk and light was fading, but undeterred, I went into the garage and amongst my arsenal of chemicals brought out a tin of polish. I set about the car with gusto putting plenty of the polish on the car. I then spent the next 25mins or so polishing it off. It was getting a bit damp as I was polishing off, I could feel it. But finished ok and went inside to bath in the glory of what I'd done and to cash in my brownie points. Wonderful! That is until next morning when at breakfast, I looked out the window and the ungaraged Punto was to say the least looking a bit sad.The actual clearcote on the metalic paint was in tatters and peeling off!

I could barely believe it. In my haste to polish the car .
Oops. I guess having the car towed away to a garage was better than an accident due to failing brakes!!!

Aahhh! Blimey, good thing you noticed it. I think this is saying quite a bit about us all don't you? It's normal to make mistakes of all kinds...so look out, it's dangerous out there!

I always wonder why I noticed it...or why I suddenly felt the need to check. Hence my reference to my guardian angel who popped into my head!Data wrote:Aahhh! Blimey, good thing you noticed it. What about the 650's? Does anyone know if they have anything special or just normal car stuff?

Re: Engine Coolant!
Steve, my Suzuki came with Suzuki Blue 'Super Long Life' (4 year lifespan) anti freeze in it. It mixes fine with the Blue Putoline antifreeze for motorcycles. If you have the Suzuki Green 'Long Life' (2 year lifespan) antifreeze in your bike, you may have to be more careful about what you put in. In theory the Green stuff should mix with most other types of universal motorcycle antifreeze. But from what I'm finding out, it just doesn't seem to do that in every case. I'll look into it in due course to find out what's in it so we know for sure. Note I don't speak about car type antifreeze. The reason for that is that the make up of some car type antifreeze now may not be completely compatible long term with some bike engines. Again, I'm not sure why but that's what some tech ex-colleagues have told me this arvo. Again I'll look into that so we know for sure.

Re: Engine Coolant!
This antifreeze thing seems to be a bit of a minefield these days.
My SilverWing is coming up to two years old and my PCX is just over three years old so I've been thinking about replacing the coolant in both of them.
I know that they shouldn't have silicates but that's about as far as my knowledge goes.
Looking around I see some of the non silicate ones say 'OAT technology'. Any idea what that is all about.
Very confused. Keep up the good work Data

Re: Engine Coolant!
best to look in your owners manual, as they differ but suzuki state to use a suzuki coolant or a coolant that is compatible with aluminium radiators now thats were you could get caught out, it needs to be compatible with aluminiumSteve_D wrote:What about the 650's? green coloured antifreeze tends to e in many cases ..GREEN SILICATE TECHNOLOGY which is ethylene glycol based ( with alcohol in it
BLUE LONG LIFE CONCENTRATED ANTIFREEZE Blue Antifreeze is a Monoethylene Glycol based antifreeze that does not contain SILICATE, nitrates,amines or phosphates. Blue Antifreeze contains corrosion inhibitors suitable for aluminium engines
so generally i would check your manuals, and if in dout then i would go for the Blue Antifreeze is a Monoethylene Glycol based antifreeze as you cant really go wrong, Never mix the coolant concentrate below 50/50 with water
boiling point of the Granville sub zero blue antifreeze is 165 deg C which is a lot better than the normal 120 deg C of other coolants
the one i ordered was http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150916751198? ... 1439.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
their website http://www.granvilleoil.com/product_inf ... rod_id=364" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(OAT) additives are organic additives
thats 2lts at 50/50 my scoot takes 1.8ltrs mixed so with a shelf life of 2 years if i get it right then i will store ambient and will have enough for the next in two years
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
