I believe Winnats in Winnats Pass is a corruption of the words "wind gates". If it was spelled Winnets with an 'e' instead, it would refer to bits of shit sticking to the hairs of your arse!

We used these words when I was at school up north east. They were not produced by the `Male` specie !! as they were clinkers`.
The Female specie produced Winnets and it refer to pieces of toilet paper being suspended in the pubic area for a length of time and becoming sodden `water logged`. As we would say! `It winnet come oot pet`
