Burgman 125 or what?

Depending on budget.. and after owning an x8 125 I would go for a 2 yr old burgman or S Wing 125.. well balanced... low seat height so good for learners and good road presence...and better build quality than the piaggio.... well that's my two Kenneth worth anyway

A colleague at work has one of those Atlantics and it's a lovely looking scooter, pretty good top speed for a 125 as well.

That's because it weighs about the same as a rizla paper. Ok that's an exaggeration but it is very light for a big maxi scoot (I wish the nexus was that light) & with the piaggio leader engine it does go well. I actually really like riding it but need a car so it has to go.

Thanks to all for the suggestions I will pass them on. Shes the sort of person who will be through the CBT and onwards very quickly. So the next question might well be about whats the best big Maxi Scooter, Pointless, as we all know its the Burgman 650 don't we, (assuming the crouching position in the bunker waiting for the shell to land).

Advice please. A friend of mine wants to get into Scooters. She is over 21 and has a full car license so the first thing is CBT.
After that what would be the best 125 to go for? One choice if money was no object and another if it is please. She needs a substantial machine.

Depends on what you mean by a substantial machine?
Whats its intended use Commuting or Fun?
Touring Type? / Large Wheeled? / Traditional Looking?

0% deals if buying new, and get em to throw in the cost of the CBT and loan bike, along with the basic Lid Jacket n gloves that is often offererd...
One to try and get a demo ride on anyhowz... which would be tricky wivout a CBT...

Can't really go wrong with the Honda PCX as a first scoot by all that is said about em.

Here's what you don't often hear about them...
The original PCX125 was limited to 62.5 mph.
That's it, flat out 62.5mph.
Uphill or downhill, solo or two up, 62.5mph is all there is and you will be constantly getting overtaken.
Real world fuel consumption isn't as good as Honda claim, but it will do 100mpg easily enough.
It's also unsuitable for doing a test on because your full licence would then only be for a 125.
This may change under the new test and licence arrangements which start next year.
Then there's the 2500 mile or six month service schedule.
If you buy a new one and want to keep the warranty, it will cost you at least four services, circa £240- £440.
You will also need a new rear tyre every 5000 miles or so.
The seat hump is a p.i.t.a. and it doesn't have a clock.
Other than that its a damn fine scooter.

for me i'd go s-wing 125 as it's absolutely awesome scooter..comfy,economical, an looks the biz..but expencive..next would be the SYM GTS 125,pretty mch the same as my 300 body wise..an again really good value for money,and if normal stlye scooter is required the honda dylan , i had one of these an did have a really good time with it,good fuel econemy , an good speed. an ok for reasonable distance..

Kymco now retail a 125 version of the Downtown.
At £3300 it's a bit pricey, but if the 300 is anything to go by, should be a good ride.

I saw one the other day, had a good look around it and sat on it. Its a nice looking scooter, doesn't feel as well made as the Honda - a bit creaky and squeaky but a nice scooter.

I like the Kymco range in general, but I do think that that price is way way over what the market will stand for a 125.
Their 125 standard bike is fourteen hundred quid on the road, and is every bit as good as the nearest Yamaha, (the YBR125), for not far off half the price, (although I've just checked their website and they seem to have removed all but the Zing from the UK list!).

Not sure what Kymco think they're doing at the moment, but they certainly can't be selling much of anything.
