Kymco DTX 360

Looking at ADV 350 alternatives, I really like the looks of the 320cc Kymco DTX which seem to be available for £4,500 from a few places although it looks like servicing is every 3000 miles and the seat height a bit higher than my SH300 (which I will be keeping). Also a bit heavier than my last Forza 300.

I see that @StephenC owned one, and perhaps others on here, so any overall thoughts on the bike would be welcome. Normally I prefer orange bikes but the green has definitely caught my eye.

Edit: I've since been reading some comments about poor tyre life and, according to ebay, residuals are pretty awful. Still, I do like the look of them.

I've had a 300 and a 550 and completely agree with that. Even though I live quite near the Kymco dealer they have very little interest in scooters and made a few mistakes as a result. It did help that they were approachable and helpful when I took the initiative though.

There are significant differences in price and probably availability too. I chose the ADV because it has bigger wheels and better suspension. It also has the edge in quite a few more trivial ways and it was quite easy to try a demonstrator for size.

My preference is still the ADV and I might even consider a 2 yr old bike to get the price below £5k. Life would be easier too as I have a Honda dealer locally and I've actually sat on one which fitted me well. The ADV also has the adjustable screen, better service intervals, less weight, better suspension and less depreciation. That might outweigh the impressively low purchase price of the Kymco. Another positive for the Honda is that it would be much easier to arrange a trade-in, not that I really have to.

Looking at build quality, I suppose that the obvious answer is the Honda although I can't say that any of the modern ones that I've owned were particularly impressive, just ok.

So, I'm starting to fall down the proverbial rabbit hole and now looking at similarly sized scoots from Sym, Yamaha, Voge and any others that I can find. I need to take a break before I start suffering from overload!

I've just agreed a deal on a J300 which my Royal Enfield dealer couldn't shift. I was actually taking my Interceptor in for some work and took the J300 for a spin, just to pass the time really. I really liked it from the outset and it is remarkably clean for a 2017 bike. Should get it in a couple of weeks time.

My first 4 days with the J300 have been really good. It's comfortable and really quite sporty. The Powerbronze screen is not bad but, as I always do, I removed the screen and ride it naked. The airflow is surprisingly smooth, even on Sunday with coastal winds of 25mph. It felt rock solid and I think that I could do some decent trips on it. My Forza, of course, felt much more up to date but the J300 has more charm. If the Forza fitted me as well as the Kawasaki then I'd say it's the better bike but comfort is my main focus now, especially with the lower (and softer) seat and the footboards which allow my feet to go further back. In fact, it feels much closer to riding a motorbike than others scooters which I've had / have. Might not suit everyone but it's almost perfect for me. No doubt I'll find things which bug me once I've put some more miles on it but initial impressions are very good.

The Old Boy has had a J300 for 5-6 years. He doesn't do high mileage, he's 81, but you can't fault it.
