Post by charles1976 »

Any ideas of what's going on re burgmans....650 not been in production for a while and 400 no sign of anything happening at all...

I think they stopped with the 650 before covid was a thing and probabaly have been in R&D on something new. but with covid, could be things are put on hold. im guessing its a euro 5 thing.

imo, the burgman 650 speaks to a very specific small group. mostly older chaps and pensioners who want a crusier/touring. the bike looks like an old guys scooter tbh. that ecvt is also a deterrant for many buyers. I would have went with the 650 instead of a 400 had it had a standard cvt I could maintain. if you buy used you have no way of knowing if a $3000+repair bill is inevitable sooner or later.

imo they need to change the body shape and make it a more sporty look design. its bulky and fat looking. size is not a problem if you make it look sleek and sharp. its significantly larger than a tmax/ak550. slim it down only slightly and give it a more aggressive look is priority imho.

pre 2018 b400 model (2007-2017) ran for 10 years without any significant changes beside the clutch so I would not think they will change the current body. I think they skimped on the current bosy. some things theyve added but many things did not get better.

who knows. they are a big company. I dont think theyd throw a veteran model like the 650 out the window. its already more than a year news of discontinued of the 650 is passing through forums.

whats disappointing is that stva they have (b400) which has known c28 issues. you cant even buy the unit by itself. you have to buy the whole throttle body at $550. thats disappointing.

they are a bit in a sleep regarding the burgmans. the 200 is a decent scooter but I also heard is hard to get. the 400 is a skimped on scooter and the 650 needs a revamp for sure. but making a new engine from scratch is no easy task. they had it coming though. 20 years with that ecvt is overdue.

a bike or scooter is no investment. so I would not buy bmw as I think they are massively overpriced to buy and maintain.

the front fascia though... talk about aesthetically challenged. why not go for the bmw 600 if you were considering the b650 ?

and btw, im no fanboy to any company. even those I own/ed. I do not form any sentiments for them.

they went from a super beautiful and sexy 650 to a "what the hell is that?" new body. it looks like they took styling cues for the headlight from a 50cc yamaha bws.

they could have done better. no comparison. look at the b650 and 400..the 400 doesnt look like a cheaped out design of the 650. id even argue the front on the 400 looks better than the 650. not the new 400. I think it lacks sexiness. it looks good, but just not hard edged enough to be considered sporty.
