Met Police - Xmax replacing MP3

Post by StephenC »

I haven't seen an official release or anything, but recently the number of London PCSOs I have seen on Piaggio MP3's has dropped right off and instead there are police liveried 2018 Xmax running around. Not sure if they are 125 or 300, but they are definitely NOT the 400 (the exhausts were a normal size, not the whopper the 400 gets!).

Have to say, the Xmax looks quite smart with the police stickers, blue lights, etc 8-) I'll have a hunt for pics.

I think I saw one of those on the TV news, after the recent incident at the Houses of Parliament. I saw the scoot and tried to work out what it was - didn't pay any attention to the news story!

If these are for PCSOs, then the Tmax would probably have required advanced riding skills. If the objective is to get from A to B as quickly and as safely as possible, then I'd say the Xmax is ideally suited.

For London streets - and these are PCSO and not traffic plod - you'd only need a 125 (which I expect these are). The bigger boot and better economy, let alone being half the price would easily swing the decision the Xmax's way!

I guess in central London, performance isn't so important as agility and traffic busting ability. A Tmax would find it more difficult to worm its way round grid locked traffic.

It's a bit of an oddity of the XMax range that they don't put the engine size on them anywhere...the silencer on the 125 is small and circular, while on the 300 it's a fairly deep oval - if that helps!

I'd have though an MP3 would have been better for knocking thieves off their scooters. Especially if they bullbars.
