Evening All,
Jon 36. Roydon, Essex. Been riding for 3 years..... please go easy!
Owned...
Kawasaki ZZR600 - £500 jalopy to see if like motorcycling (i did)
So bought a Suzuki Bandit 1250 - used purely for fun
Got offered a dead ZXR400 from a work colleague at a silly price - got it running and started to use it for work - but being 6"2" got incredible cramp
And now a X10 350
I am going to stick my head on the line here and say that when I passed my bike test in June 2013 I would never even dreamt of looking at a scooter, let alone buy one.
.... So why the Maxi Scooter?
For the past two years my Bandit was my pride and joy, and had visions of keeping it for some time, during ownership I could quite happily go to the garage, go for a blat on the lanes near me and enjoy myself. For some reason, in 2016 I couldn't do it, I just couldn't find the motivation to go out, I needed a very good reason or excuse and ended up using it only once or twice up until July. I have no close friends into performance bikes, so was always out alone.
In December last year I was approached by a work colleague who needed to get shot of a very original non running ZXR400 which had been stood for a couple of years, some in depth but standard servicing and I got it running. it was tidy, but my no means a minter. I slowly started using it more and more for a 27mile each way commute into work. The benefits were obvious, I took great pleasure in waving at work colleagues stuck in traffic at the bottom of the A1 (Barnet) and found myself getting to work far more relaxed and less stressed.
I'm not actually sure why my curiosity for scooters came from, a chap at work had a T Max which I admired, but unfortunately the price tag was out of reach. A lot of reading and watching youtube videos later and I seemed set on an X10
Some classified ad searching led me to a Blue 2014 X10..... being advertised by a forum member "GLOBS"
I can genuinely say the was the most pleasant motor vehicle purchase I have ever made... Thank you
...... So what Now?
Ride the X10 on fair weather days commuting, keeping her presentable for some two up days out with the wife to the coast. This had been done previously on the bandit but with limitations due to comfort and storage.
Try and get involved with the forum and spread the Maxi Scoot word
On a different note, i'm sure i recently witnessed a "muppets" ride out come through Roydon a few weeks ago?
Any how, enough waffle
Thanks for reading
Jon
