Want to buy a new Burgman 400Z

Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a new (2015) 400Z as my current wheels are 9 years old (X8 250ie) and they are on offer from Suzuki with 0% finance.
Could someone just answer a couple of queries?

Are the servicing charges overly expensive? They quote a service plan, but I can't see whether that is good value for money or not. For the warranty period I would go for dealer service, but not so sure afterwards.

Is there anything I need to keep an eye on? My X8 just keeps running without any attention .... if it breaks it gets fixed and the dealer throws oil at it now and then (usually when he is fixing something else - not often).

Don't understand why you would want a 400Z when the standard model now has ABS and is available for £5000 with 0% finance over four years?
£1500 is a shitload of cash for poofy handwarming kit and a silly backrest

Exactly the reasons for me asking questions ......
But .... the list price for the 400 is £5999, only £500 less than the 400Z, and as I want the poofy handwarming kit, perhaps it's not such a bad deal?

Buy aftermarket hand warmers, cheaper than the factory bollox for a lot less.

Yep, Maxsym or Burgman 400z abs is the way to go for sure. Either bike is superb but the Maxsym has a lot of power and is too much for many folks coming from a smaller bike. Whatever bike you go for, get the abs, it can be a life saver as I found out. I haven't owned the Maxsym but spaceprobe can tell you anything you want to know about it. However, I've owned the 400z abs for 3.5 years now and it's a brilliant bike. Easy to diy and even if you take it to the dealer, the servicing costs are very good. My dealer charged just £25 for the first service, £90 for the second service, and the bigger 3rd service would be £130. But check with your dealer on costs. I didn't have the 3rd service as I did that myself as it was out of warranty by then and it's very easy to do. Make sure to use plenty of power and revs when you move off and you will never have any trouble with the clutch judder that some speak of. No known faults with the engines or any other part of the bike. It's really well fettled. The 'Limited Edition' of course has the handguards, abs, passenger backrest and of course the abs. I just added a front mudflap to keep the crud out of the radiator but apart from that there's nothing to do to it except ride it. It's a very nice bike to ride and comfortable and you can go intercontinental on it anytime, it's that good.

Maxsym 400 is five grand.
Haven't seen the 600 at that price.
Have yet to see a Maxsym at all, seems they are a very rare beast.

There is a UK dealer selling new, Maxsym 400 at £3995 and the 600 at £5299 plus otr costs. They are EU imports with two year manufacturer warranty.

My own opinion as a committed Burgman rider is that after market hand warming is better than factory fitted. Sad but true.
Hand guards are well worth having. Comfort on board can be improved with an after market screen from Givi or similar.

Fitted with a top box you generally have a backrest anyway.

ABS is good but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I know some swear by it, but my 03 650 doesn't have it and the brakes are excellent with loads of feel. The 14 650 doesn't have the same degree of feel but has ABS.

The 400 is a great all round bike. I don't know anyone who would contradict that, (stands back and waits), whatever else, it is a standard to compare against. In much the same way that the BMWs were compared against the 650 Burgman.
