Re: Engine number on a 400
I read your other thread about your belt issue. Why did the mechanic say get the engine number? Are you wanting the engine number to see if it's still the original as recorded on the V5? I would think it's somewhere on the actual engine block but the Vin is the normal identification method for models etc and that's stamped on the frame, I'm to believe possibly towards the rear?
Here is Mitch's Scooter Stuff link for the 07+ 400 and somewhere in his videos he may have shown the engine or vin number?
There is definitely a mechanical issue causing the belts to wear quickly and the variator face plates would be the first place to check along with the clutch.

The frame serial number or V.I.N. (Vehicle Identification Number) 1 is stamped on the right side of the
frame tube. (when you lift the seat, near the air box top cover) The engine serial number 2 is located on the left side of the crankcase. above the bell housing towards the wheel.
These numbers are required especially for registering the machine and ordering spare parts.
this was taken from a burgman general owners manual

Re: Engine number on a 400
thanks lad, i would be stripping the front variator and the rear pulley to have a ganders, something rubbing and has to be a mechanical effect , if mechanic has not dealt with a scoot before it needs mentioning. as the belt justs sits/moves in the face plates and is grooved/shaped to handle it.

Hi Mike
I was with G's son when the belt went. I think the pulleys were not cleaned off when the belt was replaced. The mechanic in Germany had a heat gun on the face of the pulleys cleaning all the debris out. The new belt changed the whole profile of rev range to mph which seems to confirm my feeling that it was incorrectly fitted.

Re: Engine number on a 400
Ignore my comments just read the other thread and apparently the belt is showing signs of wear after 600 miles.

Re: Engine number on a 400
Hi Guys
Thanks for the comments, the problem is that the wear is on the outer top side of the belt. Across the base of the Toberlerone as it were. It's not the inner sides of the belt that's wearing as I think it would if something was awarding it on the pulleys.

Re: Engine number on a 400
then I WOULD look at the inner crank case surface, to see if there is rubbing marks.... its got to be rubbing somewhere when the scoot is on the throttle off when riding and the belt is relaxed , THE AREA at the top of the clutch bell housing is the close area the belt gets near too, the scoot wants running on the main stand and throttle cycle with the crankcase cover off, so you can see the revolution of the belt cycle... you still need to check the drive faces and the clutch pulley to be sure they are fine..
search by your vin number to get the correct belt number, then check the belt no on the belt you have on the scoot now to make sure you have the right one HERE http://www.bike-parts-suz.com/suzuki-id ... roup_n.php
