 I never carried spare bearings but always gaffer tape and zip ties - that's about my level of technical competence!

We knew we could fix it if we got to Villanova, trouble is that's 168 miles from Zaragoza. I've never ridden that far with my arse clenched, listening to the horrible crunching noises from the deceased bearing  When we examined its remains, it was clear that it had been knackered for a while, I should really have picked that up in pre-tour preparations but I'd been busy with other things. That aside it did really well, it's a fine thing for long journeys and I never doubted for a second that it would make it home. Take no notice of Pikey

My favourite moment from those pictures was when I stopped atop the Pyrenees, just by the ski resort at La Pierre St Martin. A group of Spanish lads came by, all mounted on fully-laden BMW GS adventure thingys, waving enthusiastically at me, stood by my road rash scarred commuter step-thru. Gotta love touring on a budget :D
