J300 - Weapons Free!

Post by StephenC »

As of this morning I have now completed the full running-in process of 500 miles limited to 5000rpm and then another 500miles limited to 6ooorpm. What a pain that was :(

From now on I can use all of the J300's rev range. So if anyone is in the vicinity of the M11 from the A12 up to J5 this evening, don't be alarmed if you hear something like a sonic boom. That'll be me ;)

I've been getting mid-70s mpg so far and it will be interesting to see what I get now that I can fully open up the taps. I shall report in due course.

10 April, I think. But I had a week off straight after so got off to a slow start.

My commute is 54 miles a day.

Snap!

Mines in beautiful Aberdeenshire though and mostly when there's not too much traffic about, one of the benefits of shiftwork.
Have clocked up 8100 miles since mid-September, second service is done and its on the second rear tyre.

Well, I start in lovely Essex countryside but work my way in right to the very centre of London.

Certainly keeps me alert. Like tonight, when I found out for sure that the scoot does have ABS. The information came courtesy of a snap lane changer. :o

Hey up Fellas.

Glad to hear it's going well with the J300. Mine's gone now as you know and I miss it some days (like yesterday and like I will this morning with all this rain). And other days I don't (cross winds on the "big" roads).
Anyhoo - mpg-wise, when run-in mine was doing around 70mpg. Dropping to (at worse) 68mpg two-up.

Like I've said, Kelly is so taken with pillion that we've got the bandit now. A little more road presence (not as much as you'd think), but I do think driving standards are getting worse and worse. On Monday's ride home from work, a bloke on an early red Pan European overtook the 125 behind me then as I negotiated the next left-hander nearly brushed me as he passed. I was well over to the line of course for a good view ahead and he had to go well over on the blind side. Never saw him coming as he was really pushing on. As we continued on into a 30mph built-up area he overtook the car in front which was making good progress and unnecessary but I think he wanted to show me and the "L" plated 125 that he could "have us". So it's not all car drivers.

Yesterday's return from work was marred by reg plate hugger's as I cautiously negotiated several very wet and greasy roundabouts.

Be careful out there - I love you guys

Btw, the Bandit forum - though good, isn't as good as MaxiMuppets :D

I must admit I do like the look of the J300 but not seen one in the flesh. Have they got much leg room for someone my size, 6' 2", what's the top end speed and acceleration like, Phil

Got to admit that leg room isn't a strong point so I would guess it could be an issue for someone your size. I'm sure you'll find one of us with one at a meet-up somewhere before long so you can have a sit on. There are demos around the dealers too, but good luck finding a SE-ABS as I gather they have all been spoken for.

I've not tried to max it out but the acceleration is excellent throughout the speed range. European mag reviews put it better than quite a few 400cc scoots, let alone other 250/300s. It feels strong at motorway speeds to me, but from a standing start is when it most impresses - you know that slight bogging down you get off the line with bigger scoots as the CVT works out what to do? Well not on this little beastie. The surge is instant and constant.
