Re: Can I suggest we close this topic?
There are those of us(not many) who ride most days, doing an average of 100ml. As is known, and i get berated for, i prefer to ride alone, i come on this site just to see if any topics are of interest. I dont class myself as a "Muppet", as i thought it referred to the old police version Most Useless Police Person Ever Trained not some Puppets, on Saturday i was out all day it never stopped raining and i enjoyed every minute. Although i ride alone i do socialise when i stop for a break, it is never for more than a brew. Since December i have done 5,000mls. I ride across Pendle a lot, as one of my runs is to Blacko and over the tops to Gisburn usually then on to Settle and either Hawes or towards Lancaster to Glasson dock. although i do ride at weekends most riding is done midweek.

Three meets at least this year. Ace Cafe, X9OC weekend away and the pie and mash run. Like others say, its family commitments etc that get in the way etc.
Many people moan at the lack of meets, but never organise one themselves.

I tried organising something for Hastings May Day run... kinda worked but a bit boring with only 3 of us turning up in the right place.
I often ride out on my own like Meldrew... its nice to just pop out on the spur of the moment and just have blast to blow away the cob webs

Well as mentioned we met up at Hawes 10.00, had a brew, no muppetts showed! we left just before 11.00.And rode to Sedburgh passed the Howgills on little roads to Shap, travelling on a B road between both lanes of the m6 at one point. Had a great lunch at the abbey café Shap, then off into the lakes along glen Ridding over the tops and down the struggle into Ambleside. A good ride to Keswick another brew then thro the Whinnlatter pass and via little lanes thro the Honister pass and back into Keswick. After which we rode down to Ingleton made our goodbyes and went our separate ways. A really good ride out, northern England is quite beautiful in spring especially with some sunshine.
Midweek riding is good,as is solo riding, but also I think that meeting up with one or two pals and riding along together is also a pleasant thing to do.B

Re: Can I suggest we close this topic?
Hi I've been meaning to chip in on this one. I always read Sylar and Meldrew's comments with great interest. Both Guys deserve respect for the amount of miles they cover. My only comment is that when does this abuse about anyone preferring to ride on their own happen? I certainly have never heard any or seen anything on the forum. You have turned up on a number of meets and that's absolutely fine. It makes no difference to anyone if you ride on or not. Its completely your choice.
Jim B from Chesterfield is another member who prefers to ride on his own. He's not anti social, he's recently done a Mega trip down to a meet up down south, (I think it was the Bristol area). Absolutely respect him for it,.
With the Northern Riders group, its a simple case of members get a text saying theres some ride or meet in the near future and if they want to come then they come. If not then they don't. They can be at the destination at the start or if they want to say they will be at a way point then fair enough. The only thing asked is that if they say they are coming then let us know if that changes so we don't waste time waiting.
Some times we have had 2 people say they are coming and had 12 turn up. Its very free and easy. If I organise anything then I go whatever the support level.
Anyone else suggesting anything should perhaps have the same thinking of "I'm going anyway".
One thing though about group rides - I feel that on any number of riders above 5 needs to be using the drop off method - see riding in a group. In my experience this leads to a faster smoother ride with less looking back to make sure everyone is through the junction etc.
Anyway my new Burger is run in - thank you asking - so Northern Riders expect some texts!
Theres about 30 people on my text list if anyone wants to join in then let me know.
