Re: high milage
well my nexus has done 44000 miles, as long as its serviced regular and certain precautions depending on model are done there is only generally the wear and tear/serviceable replaceable items you may need to service, it depends on the specific make/model what you have to look atandi mac wrote:on the market for some more wheels

Re: high milage
My three Satelis all went well over 20k miles. After that point you'll need to think about clutches, battery, other stuff that eventually wears out. You might also get odd electrical things - I recently had the voltage regulator fail.
So long as you are ready to accept this sort of thing, then I would say don't worry too much.

My lady partner girlie friend is riding her 2004 Honda Lead 100 in all weathers on the commute, running 19,800 miles on the clock. We bought it with most of those miles on already.
Mind you it's me that sees to the wear and tear maintenance and the regular servicing.

Re: high milage
you could get a decent silverwing for 2 grand, Ive seen them with 90,000 miles and still running sweet. pre '07 are a little more thirsty, apart from that, great comfy powerful scoots.
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

Re: high milage
My Burger 4 had well over 30k on the clock, including two years spent as an instructor bike. I sold it in 2007 and in 2011 it was sold by a dealer in South London, so it was still going then.
The only extra apart from the normal consumables like belts, clutches and weights you might need to budget for in a higher mileage machine are things like shocks and fork springs as they may have got `tired`. Other than that a daily-use high miler is likely to be in a better condition than a weekend warriors sunny Sunday scoot.
It has to be, as it was the daily commuter!
If I was writing Glass's Guide or other trade price guides, I'd be pricing down on very low-mileage machines as they may not have received the tender loving care of a regular use machine, standing for long periods or only used on occasional short journeys. They require a lot more scrutiny of the implied condition than the shiny bits might suggest...

Re: high milage
The point is that if you try to trade in a bike or scoot with more then 2000 miles a year, dealers will look pained and complain about it being 'high mileage', and offer you a stupid trade in value, as will insurance companies offer you a crap price if its written off.
Of course, it doesn't stop self same dealers asking top whack for the same vehicle when they try to resell it!
Now there is probably nothing wrong whatever with a highish mileage scoot, but only be prepared to pay a rock bottom price for it. After all, its worth nothing to the dealer, who'll probably be desperate to rid themselves of it. If the dealer starts playing silly wotsits, walk. There are lots more out there.

Yes, but leave a silly offer on the table as you walk away, along with a number.
You'll be surprised how often the phone will ring.
