I don't think you can trim the guards. You could take a bit off the screen but it might lose a bit of rigidity ( it looks like it relies on the edges for some of that)
With the guards and the screen together you lose about the last cm of bar travel

I had a similar thing on my Honda NC700X where the Hand guards hit the screen on full lock.
It was no big problem and I just made sure that I never put it on full Lock
