Real Rider

Post by spaceprobe »

I have had this email from the BMF. Thought i woukd take advantage of the special offer and give it a try.
Dear Robert

The BMF has always been acutely aware of rider vulnerability. BMF Membership Services Director Peter Laidlaw has arranged the following member benefit with REALRIDER.

Take advantage of a lifetime offer on REALRIDER's REALsafe app before 20th November 2013. REALsafe is available after this date but for an annual fee.

REALRIDER® is the must-have app for motorcyclists that automaticall detects if you've had a crash and contacts the Ambulance Service with your last known location and medical details. It is a safety net for bikers and is as essential as putting on your helmet.

How does REALsafe® work?

Before you ride, open the app to begin recording your route.

It's very important to keep the phone on you - NOT on the bike - in the event of a crash, paramedics need to know where YOU are, not your bike.

Monitoring four key sensors found in smartphones, the app looks for changes that occur during a crash, such as rapid deceleration, tumbling motion followed by a period of no movement.

If your REALRIDER® app detects a crash, an alert is triggered. If yo are OK, you can deactivate the alert to prevent your information from being sent. If left, the phone will send your location and medical details.

As the Ambulance Service receives this information, a three-call process is triggered to see if contact can be made.

If you are able to answer during this time, and you are injured at the scene, you will be taken through a triage process on the phone to determine the extent of your injuries.
If you answer and are unhurt, the Ambulance Service are glad to know you are OK and no further action will be taken.
If you are non-responsive, the Ambulance Service will begin the process of dispatching to your last known location.
Note: The app does NOT record speed.

To guarantee a lifetime membership to REALsafe® crash detection fo a one-off fee of £4.99, here's what you need to do:

Visit the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and download the free REALRIDER® app
Open app and Sign Up where it says 'Click here to sign up'.
Check your email for a validation email, click the link and you're ready to go.
Open app and enter your email/password, ensuring you click the 'Remember Me' box. Now login.
Open the safety sub menu by clicking the hazard triangle on the app's main menu.
Click the 'heart' icon and you will be asked to upgrade for £4.99 Click OK and this will debit your account automatically through the normal App Store payment method.
Input your medical details into the app and you're ready to go.
REALsafe® monitors your phone's sensors during route recording only To record a route, click the Add Route icon in the Routes menu.
Android Users: only compatible with Android software 4.0 or above. If your Android phone cannot download the app, please email customerservice@realrider.com and we will offer an alternative method of purchasing a premium code to guarantee lifetime subscription to REALsafe®.

Note: Version 2 of the app launching on 23rd November will be available as a free upgrade to all customers. You will never be charged to use the REALsafe® crash detection feature.

Failure to download the app before 20th November will result in a £25 per annum fee to use crash detection in the V2 app.

Bonus

By signing up to REALRIDER® you join an exclusive network fo motorcyclists. Supported by a dedicated web platform at realrider.com you can meet other riders, share and explore routes, report road defects in real time and create your own biking history in your personalised garage.

Report-A-Road

The current method for reporting road defects is two fold. The app can be used to add road defects by location. These are automatically registered at realrider.com for other riders to view either online via the website or on their apps.

The website can also be used to add road defects by location using the 'Add POI' feature in the Routes section.

The REALRIDER® team is currently working with Elgin to develop mechanism that will automatically send road defects to the respective highway authority. Steve Kent of Adeptnet has also given his full support to the REALRIDER® Report-A-Road system and will assist in connecting us t highway engineers if the Elgin system cannot be implemented.

We are aiming to have the feature plumbed in by the new biking season.

Sounds like a good enough idea but where I live the mobile phone signals are patchy to say the least.

I'd be worried about false alarms, I never know if my phone goes off when I am riding even if its on vibrate...

I have been in contact with Andrew the guy behind Real Rider. On the 20th a much improved version of the service and app will be released with an annual fee of £20. If any of you purchase the existing version for £4.99 before the 20th of this month then you will get the upgrade on the 20th and you will not have to pay the annual fee. Something to think about.

This is the latest I have had from him:We're also working closely with the Government's 999/112 Liaison Committee . A sub group was formed to work with us after I presented a paper back in June. As a result, we'll be plugged into BT's re-worked telematics system in 2014 making us the only system to deliver a network agnostic product for motorcycling.

You should see the crash alert system in action, I don't mean that literally of course but the speed at which it sends name, number, DOB, location, medical info as well as vertical/horizontal margins for error to help air ambulance crews pin-point an injured rider before take off.

It did take a while to get through NHS compliance as you'll appreciate. I started working with the North East Ambulance Service Trustv on this back in March 2011!

If you need ant more info let me know. You should visit our Facebook page for updates too, it's http://www.facebook.com/REALRIDER1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you'll see some of the new website designs.

Best regards,

Interesting but I'm a bit confused over two things.
The first is minor: what is the member benefit that has been negotiated? It seems to be available to anybody at that price.

More importantly, it looks like the App must always be open to function. I can't tell if you can use your GPS App over the top of it - that would be a deal breaker for me

You are correct anybody can have the same deal until to the 20th of this month which is why I shared it on here. You turn the app on before you start your journey and it automatically turns on your gps. The developer tells me the new version that will be out after the 20th will be easier to use and will use less phone battery. To get the one off £5 charge you need to buy the old version now and it will then get upgraded free of charge to the new version after the 20th.

Spaceprobe sounds like a real life saver app for the cellphone. I don't think we would get it in New Zealand but i think this person is really on to something. Maybe all countries should have something like this with phones and scooters/motorbike riders. 8-)

The update for this is now out, its now much more straightforward to use, as a better interface and uses less battery. Sadly the special offer is over so new useres will have to pay an annual fee.
