Good biking route to Italy wanted.

Post by Steve_D »

As above, I'm sure I read of one on here but can't find it now. Looking on planning a route for a trip to Lake Garda next year but instead of going through France and Switzerland we fancy going another route. I'm sure it went through the Black Forest and Austria. Or was I dreaming? Can anyone help?

There's a minor (non toll) road that follows the same route as the main road through the Brenner Pass.
Much better.

The older road is actual original Brenner pass I think but you have choice of Mway toll new or not depends on time you have or you can just pay mway pass toll and get off before Italian Mway toll starts .Dont dismiss Mway all together me and Whitty talk about it still now and we went in 2006 you seem to be going down hill for miles and miles we got off half way to Garda as we were heading over to Venice .We did Augsburg to Venice in a day dont think we would have done it without bit of Mway .

Thanks. We always use a TomTom and can choose to avoid Mways or toll roads, select winding roads etc. We've gone to South of France/Italy twice and always gone through France and Switzerland but fancy a new route. Worse bit for us is the first 4-500 boring miles through flat France. Is it better through Belgium/Germany/Austria? Anyone done that route? Any tips?

Just done something similar... night one Belgian Ardennes from Calais

Night two in Baden Baden and make sure you ride the B500.

Night three, Schluchsee

This might give you some ideas, as this was the tour I was on...
