Oil and filter change

Post by mjf65 »

Although the bike I'm buying (burgman 400 2011) it has only done just over 1k since its last service it's just over 12 months so I want to do the oil and filter, how easy is it compared to my previous 1250 bandit which was simples. Does it have the usual canister type?

Yes and yes, get a service manual, check Burgman USA and micbergsma youtube videos.

seems a bit early to change the oil and filter after 1000 miles? i just did my 2002 400 burger.. drain nut easy to get to, 3 off 8mm hex studs to remove filter cover... change filter, replace all nuts etc, put 2 litres in.. job done.

mjf, the filter is a paper cartridge type not the cannister sort. It's very very easy to change it though. You need to change the inner filter seal too that does not come with the filter. The outer seal on the filter cannister cover can go two or three time before you need to replace it. But alway change the inner seal as that maintains your oil pressure.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!
