TMAX REPLACEMENT SCREEN ?

Post by SOOTYGULL »

I get a hell of a lot of wind noise (not due to baked beans) on my Mark 3 TMAX and wondered about a replacement screen.

I like to look over a screen not through one, so don't want a tall one - I am only 5'7"

Has anyone got a Givi Airflow, MRA, Laminar Lip or other make fitted to their TMAX which reduces wind noise ?

I have the Airflow on my Silverwing and it's a vast improvement on the OEM. Meldrew might be able to chime in with more comments !

Have thought about a laminar lip for my mk3 but the price keeps me from getting one.

I get less wind noise if I just remove the screen completely. When they made the Neotec they didn't have the TMax screen in mind. I suspect the noise varies a lot depending on the helmet.

I had the Laminar Lip on my mk3 and it worked superbly for me - made it very quiet, up to about 80mph anyway. Only snag is the dual lock thingies they give you to attach it to the screen, which failed on me, so bolt it to the screen if you get one.

I've now got an MRA touring screen.
It's got a laminar lip fitted but I'm not that impressed.
It's even smaller than my sportscreeen and hasn't improved the wind noise much. I bought it on ebay and didn't see the size in the small print!
I got soaked on the M1 yesterday so weather protection isn't up to much either
I might try fitting the lip to one of my other screens.

Laminar Lips are allegedly scientifically designed for each specific bike / scooter, so might not work too well on a non-standard screen. Obviously the gap between the Lip and the screen redirects the airflow, but its got to somewhere - sounds like its into your face! As I said, it worked brilliantly for me when fitted to the standard mk3 screen. There again, anything would be an improvement over the standard screen.

I've fitted a MRA vario screen (basically same size as standard screen but with movable lip) to my mk4 Tmax. An improvement noise wise but not as good as the mk3 screen + Lip

Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to reply.

I have got to say that in the back of my mind has been the Givi Airlfow because I bought one for my previous scoot, a Honda SH300 ... I had to cut the sliding section down but once that was done it was very versatile in providing rain protection and in the summer I could remove the sliding section to give plenty of fresh air to the face. It was quieter but not silent but then you wouldn't expect it to be.

Mr Grumpy you seem so pleased with your Laminar Lip on your Mark 3 that perhaps I should give that a go first, especially as the standard screen although noisy gives me plenty of rain protection.

I drilled the original screen on my tmax and fitted an airflow screen and clamps. I did originally try the airflow meant for the tmax but hated it. The bits (screen and clamps) cost about £60.

Funycowie thanks for your offer to come and try your screens.

Looking at the blinging you are doing to your Tmax, I expect your screens are lower than the barn doors I am after.

Wow you have 4 screens - did you find each time you bought one it wasn't quite right and that made you keep searching ?

That must have cost you a lot of time and money.

What have you tried and what do you currently have fitted ?
