Cancelled meeting so went for a ride

Post by Gerard C »

Well another cold ride out. I had to go to Hitchin on business and as the Car is on holiday on Guernsey. I thought I’d go on the Bike. Accompanied by my Mate Alan who’s retired and always up for a ride we set off down the M1 from Wakefield to Junction 36 then took the A638 across to the A1. The traffic levels were busy enough to be interesting but not enough to hold us back so the speed was around the maximum allowed. (Maybe a bit more, but don’t tell anybody).

To cut a long story short – because the A1 is boring, not in the same league of boring as the M1 but still boring – we stopped for Breakfast at a Little Chef near Hitchen, (Company paying so extra bacon please). The phone goes and the meetings been cancelled. So now what?

In a fit of adventure we headed off across country to Skegness. Corby Glen and then onto Stamford. Temperature is around 6 degrees so not exactly sweltering. Planned to stop in Stamford but didn’t see anything to encourage us so moved on towards Boston where we did stop for a break. Its along time since I’ve been to Boston I was quite impressed with the central area. Good open spaces pleasant to walk around. Apparently the Parking Wardens are very strict and we couldn’t get an answer as to if Bikes paid. We risked it anyway.

Boston onto Skegness. Amazing just how much was actually open. Hotels, BnB’s etc. were closed but lots of Cafes and other amusments were open should that be something you like. We just had to work hard to get a glimpse of the Sea and the Windfarms through the murk. Set off back to Wakefield. It’s no wonder they say Skeggy is bracing its open to any wind that’s going. Not a lot of call for Mountain Bikes around there I would think.

Plenty of traffic to play with on the way home some good overtaking giving me chance to see the nerves of steel of Alan. Luckily no opportunity to try out my limited first aid skills!

Arrived back in Wakefield after 9 hours out. 9.00am to 6pm. Cold but in a fantastic mood.

I do have a couple of pics so I will attempt to post them later. Be warned they are not Sylar or Solo class.

It never got above 6 degrees all day, not as cold as our last below freezing ride out but stretching none the less.

Hoping for a lot more cancelled appointments come Spring.
