No I am not a copper
Just be careful how many times you call them 'Sir' though I find 7 or 8 to be the limit before they think you're taking the urine lol

don't think I have ever called one 'sir', I treat them as they were a friend of a friend, not too much information given but not hostile so as to insult. They are only people in fancy dress

Ah but I call friends of friends 'Mate' 'Sir' just shows a little bit of respect, but like you say just being curtious works and costs nothing.

I don't mind being stopped by Plod. It's their job, and whilst I think some of them take the piss, in the main they do it reasonably well, and at least you can negotiate. For instance, I don't believe for one minute that I would have been booked for 34mph, which is why I DO object to speed cameras.

However, don't get me going on Community Support Officers. No disrespect to them personally, but I want real coppers on the street, protecting me and my belongings, not overblown traffic wardens, who, to be honest, just look scruffy most of the time.

That's unfortunate Spike, but as I said, it will vary a little from force to force. You can be done for doing 34 if the policy allows it. Your prosecuting force clearly don't give you anything other than the 10% error allowance which is a bit strange. Gotta say that mostly if you get done for doing 34mph there is often something else you are being done for as well. For example, traffic cop cousin says they cannot get a speeding conviction alone on someone doing 80mph on a dual carriageway or motorway if that person is driving safely. The court simply throws it out so the police won't issue a ticket. But if the car is defective or being driven in a manner that isn't right, then a prosecution for the defect is carried forth and a speeding conviction can also be applied and successfully prosecuted. Did you get done by a camera, or patrol car with a radar or vascar?
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!
